Movies

We've seen more in the past week then I've ever seen in that amount of time. Rented: mib3, trouble with the curve, premium rush. Theater: sky fall, the hobbit and les mes. Purchased: magic mike. So silly, dramatic, romantic, trashy, and long and slow. We've covered all our bases.

Holiday Spirit.

Knit a hat for the guilds collection for local homeless children. Used up some bits of neon colored acrylic yarn in my stash. Incorporated a single cable as a "design element".

Winter wonderland

I having been following the news of snowfall, traffic delays and accidents. For me, it is much better to follow that sort of news from someplace warm. While I enjoyed the beauty of first snow falls, I never really loved the months of not first snowfalls that follow. However, for my cold weather friends if it makes you feel any better...I got rained on while golfing today.

I started and finished a $1.75 cowl yesterday while watching the last episodes of midsomer murders. Bargain yarn. Damaged it wasn't possible to knit a ruffled scarf. I improvised and think the result turned out pretty well. The black and silver against the red hassock doesn't look quite as nice as I'd hoped.

Black Friday shopping

On Black Friday we bought a tow and a new battery. Dh went to Home Depot to buy himself a workbench that was in the ad. When he came out the car wouldn't start. A friend tried to jump it...no luck. AAA was called, they came out an jumped it. It started. They left. The car died again. So it was towed to a nearby shop. A new battery has been installed.

But we are beginning to fear that the battery is just a component of an ever expensive life support system.

Dh, car and new work bench are now safely in the garage.

Doesn't look partial to me

The forecast today was partially cloudy. The sky doesn't seem to be the least bit partial...it seems fully committed to cloudy. Plus the wind is picking up. It will be a great day to stay home, empty my cupboards, pull out shelves being installed next week...yeah! Watch Netflix and knit or start a book.

Finished

Finished, washed, blocked, sewed buttons on a baby sweater for a cousins baby. And the baby is not even due till January! A first boy after 3 girls. So I made sure to sew the buttons on the correct side for boys wear, cause I think it will be important to the parents, I suspect the baby and his sisters won't know or care.

I used the free knitting pure and simple baby hooded cardigan. It is gender neutral, fast, and cute. Gotta love it.

Strange stuff

Looking over from the tee box today we spotted a lovely water feature. A small water fall and pond. Then in the corner we spotted this. I suspect it's leftover from Halloween. It made us giggle

Great friends great day!

Wednesday was a great day! I got to spend it on a "field trip" with two wonderful women. There was no angry venomous election conversation. We had wonderful food. Fondled, and bought some lovely yarn. Chatted laughed. All the things that make a truly great day.

We went on the trip to visit a yarn shop and have Mexican food. We had tasty food, and the best chips ever at a place called chuys in Gainesville fl. The building is painted wild bright colors. The tables are vintage 50's dinner. The room we sat in had velvet paintings of trucks and cars on the walls. And the ceiling was covered with hubcaps. It mades us smile.

Then we shopped a little. I bought some Happy sock yarn that is bamboo with a little nylon. It will be a scarf someday. And aslantrends Pima cotton in grey that will I think become a 3button wrap.

And before we left Gainesville we stopped for coffee and donuts. While they weren't hot they were pretty fresh.

The only downsides was two of our knit sibs were unable to join us. So I guess that means we will have to go again someday.

Getting stuff done.

Or not. I have put aside the high plains drifter shawl. I just don't love it right now. Think maybe its a yarn compatibility issue.

But I finished a club cover for dh. He lost his caddy shack gofer.

I'm making good progress on the Robin Hood baby sweater. Sadly we have finished all 3 seasons on Netflix. We will miss the gang In Sherwood Forrest.

I've co a simple pair of short socks.

Yesterday we drove to Costco and bought tile to do the kitchen backsplash. Much better price then the local home stores. The choice was really limited. Only 2 colors but it works for us.

Then stopped at a place we've driven by for 3 years and had a great burger

Today the sun is shining. It's dd2 birthday.

Brrr!

I know my northern friends are saying quit your whining. But the temps have dropped. Long pants and jackets are out of closets. Along with gloves and since I'm a knitter cowls and headbands. But the worst has been the wind. And it's hard to take a picture of gusts of wind. But you know the kind. Where you stand and the gusts make your sleeves sound like a Canadian goose about to take flight.

I am much relieved that dd1 was not to affected by the hurricane. She has had power and no damages.

So the grown up in me knows that having seen the pictures of devastation on the coast I ought not complain about temps in the 40s and gusts in the low to mid 20 mi/hr. my inner child still says brrrr. Luckily the grown up controls the credit card. So I went online and made a donation to the Red Cross.

Homage

A baby gift and geeky fan moment all in one. I am knitting another of the Pure and Simple baby cardigans. My accident the yarn I bought in Minnesota combined with the pattern reminds me of my latest tv binge the BBC version of Robin Hood.

The book is:

My life in stitches.

Today it rained

First time since we arrived in Florida. So to keep occupied I went to knitting. Ran errands. Decided the line of grey on my part had to go so picked a color at target. Colored my hair. Downloaded a knitting related book for only 1.99 on kindle, a daily special. And took pictures of my finished project then tucked them away in my drawer until it gets cool enough for socks and jeans.

Before and after

I've been working on the High Plains Drifter shawl. A nice pattern for mindless knitting.

But then I saw I'd made a mistake. I kept knitting, thinking it won't really bother me. It's just for me. No big deal. But then it caught my eye everytime I looked at it. So tonight I frogged it.

Thank heavens for knitting do overs

Signage

My stained glass house sign fit nicely. In retrospect I wish I had done the miner 6 differently. It looks different across the street then it did across the dining room in Minnesota. But it will be ok. Maybe someday I will make a different one.

Orchid

I said this year I was going to have an orchid in Florida. So on day 2 I bought one.

Time to head south

I coulda

As I was using a curling iron this morning to remove the kinks and cowlicks in my hair it struck me. That if only I'd had one of these in high school I coulda had the long straight Cher hair I aspired to, rather then the long hair with the occasional wacky wave curl and cowlick I had. Farrah Fawcett
hair was never in the realm of possibility

A perfect fall day

Temps above 70. No wind. Sunshine. So spent the day sitting outside reading and finishing my cardigan. The best of days.

Once a sports mom

Always a sports mom. Went to see dd2 yesterday. Had the opportunity to watch. Her inter mural softball game. Fun. After years of competitive sport this truly was just for fun.

The dog made the trip too. As you can see from his position on the drive home. It was exhausting having to hang out for some time alone in a strange place.

Ghostly

Woke up this morning to see the neighbors have begun covering their shrubs at night. Brrrr!

Lace petals vintage cardi

So far so good. The pattern and the yarn seem to be a good fit. Since I'm using 8s it is going at a good clip. No I didn't mow the yard or get anything else done today. Thank you for pointing that out. Since the pattern is sized sm/med. I took a leap of faith that it will fit. Since my yarn only had weight not yardage I took a leap of faith that there would be enough.

The yarn speaks

I thought this yarn wanted to be a Colonnade shawl, by Stephan West. It did not! After several hours it was clear that it would not be happy as a shawl. Just to weighty looking. So I frogged. Then I searched ravelry. And came up with the Lace Petals Vintage Cardigan.

I'm hoping it makes us both happy

Housebound

Dh came down with a significant intestinal bug on Thursday. So he spent Friday dozing on he couch and in a chair. After making a run to Goodwill to drop off a pile of household stuff. For ex, How likely am I to need three potted silk geraniums in the future. We spent the day in watching Netflix. We watched a movie, Thor. Gotta love buff Scandinavian gods. BBC mysteries, Rosemary and Thyme and Inspector Lewis. I think he's on the road to recovery. I finished my sections of a KAL for Bundles of Love and made progress on my socks. Sometimes it's good to not be allows out to play.

Smells like fall

Heard the school bus this morning. But the clearest sense of fall was walking by these leaves. Because it smelled like fall.

Into the closet of good intentions

I have been knitting. Finished a hat, another pair of mittens done except for thumbs. Pieces of a summer top done for me, just need to be seamed. Knit and frogged a child's headband 4 times last night. Gauge issues. So today I needed to do something completely different. A local shelter for battered women said they would like journals for the women. I tracked down a couple in the closet that I purchased when I thought my dd's might want to journal. They didn't. I also pulled out 6 mead composition notebooks leftover school supplies. They I dug into my craft closet of of good intentions. Pulled out scrapbook paper, rhinestones, ribbon and glue.
All blinged up and ready to donate.

Things I wasn't going to make

I have been known to utter I will never make that on occasion. I said that about socks on little needles for example. Now I have a bin of sock yarn and several sets of size 1 needles. I recently said that about ruffled yarn scarves. But my aunts birthday is coming and in a recent email she sounded like she really needed a present. So I knit a ruffled scarf. But I will never knit another. Well at least I don't think I'll ever knit another. Well at least not today I won't knit another

Parrot

I finished a stained glass parrot to hang in my lanai in Florida. The colors are much more vibrant then it shows in the picture.

Olympic efforts

We have watched a lot
Of the olympics at our house. I have watched competitors in the water, on land, on boards, beams, bars, bikes, courts, boats you name it I've probably watched at least one round of competition . I am an admitted Olympics junkie. Through it all I have been knitting I've been working on mittens for the local head start program. Winter is just around the corner and little hands get cold. Now that I have a few pairs done I'll go back and knit thumbs. I also finally finished my flat feet socks. I enjoyed the yarn, but was a little disappointed that the pattern color placement didn't line up better.

For non Olympic viewing dd2 and I rented the movie 50/50 last night. Charming.
